With the decorating, gift-giving, party planning, baking and cooking, the holidays can seem more daunting than enjoyable.  Each year it‰Ûªs common to feel both joy and a little anxiety as we approach the days leading to Christmas.

This year, try to think about the things you can do to change the way you approach the holidays by choosing to stress less and enjoy more! Here are 4 tips to help you achieve this.

1.Get organized

The best way to relieve stress is by being organized. A good way to keep everything straight is by capturing your holiday information in notes or spreadsheets. Consider creating the following lists:

  • Groceries ‰ÛÒ Entertaining? Having a list of needed groceries will ensure you‰Ûªre ready
  • People to shop for ‰ÛÒ Avoid last minute shopping for that person you forgot
  • Decorations to Buy ‰ÛÒ Focus on finding the perfect items to spice up your space
  • Baking list ‰ÛÒ pull out the recipes ahead of time and prioritize the ones you want to bake

Plan your holiday budget can also lower your stress level. Knowing you‰Ûªre within your spending limits when making these extra purchases can keep you breathing easy and relaxed.

2. Focus on what‰Ûªs important

Sometimes just thinking about the cards you need to write gives you writer‰Ûªs cramp. Ask yourself which are the most important and shrink your list from 50 to just the top 10. Another option is to try an e-card this year! They are eco-friendly, inexpensive and fun to send. Better yet, pick up the phone and make a call to your loved ones to wish them best.

3. Involve the family

There is absolutely no reason you need to do everything on your own. Let‰Ûªs face it, you are human and even superwoman needs help sometimes. Don‰Ûªt be afraid to enlist your family for help with chores, shopping, gift wrapping and food prep. Work together as a family and remember to reward yourselves with some bonding time in front of the tree when the tasks are crossed off your list.

4. Count your blessings

It‰Ûªs important to remember what the holidays are about ‰ÛÒ spending time with loved ones. Be sure to focus on giving love and joy. Make sure you practice gratitude and remind yourself that these days are all about being close to your loved ones and everything else comes second.  Think about giving back to the community and helping the less fortunate ‰ÛÒ your minimal efforts can make a world of difference to those in need.

The holidays aren‰Ûªt about being picture perfect. Figuring out how to simplify and enjoy the things that matter most to you should take precedence. Sometimes, the biggest challenge is remembering how to do this. Good luck and Happy Holidays!
