"Dina and I have known each other since 2014. I met her back when I was attending George Brown College through one of my colleagues who approached me about Avanti Women, a new organization that empowers women through connecting, collaborating and cultivating. Since then, Dina has always been a great active listener and challenges me to think differently based on situations. She has guided me throughout career issues, as well as personal issues using her expertise and wisdom."
"Being mentored by Dina has given me much more insight on my life and career, and constantly keeps me thinking about the future. Having a mentor not only keeps you driven and ambitious in your career, but it also gives you the opportunity to think outside of the box, build your network, develop leadership skills, and improve personally and professionally."
"One of the most important things that I have learned throughout school is to be organized. This includes managing your time and prioritizing. Having an agenda really helped with this. At the beginning of every semester, I would take every course outline and plan ahead of time with work, exams and assignments. I book days off well in advance, guaranteeing I give myself enough time to study, and providing some slack time and flexibility for when things do not go accordingly. The nature of my work requires a lot of scheduling and coordinating. Luckily using a planner stayed with me throughout my career. Now, I encourage anyone who has trouble planning or scheduling to use an agenda."
"I cannot live without my gym membership. I know there are different exercises and activities to keep yourself in shape and healthy; however, I have always felt the best and most comfortable in a gym setting. Running up stairs and lifting weights never disappoints me. The feeling after the leaving the gym exhausted and sweaty is one of a kind. Overall, working out at the gym keeps me competitive within and motivates me to continue to succeed."
I have a couple of different books that I absolutely love; however at the top of my list is "The Confidence Code" by Kathy Kay and Claire Shipman. The book goes over the science of women, how our brains are wired differently from men, why we do what we do, and how to take more risks. Overall it builds lasting confidence. For me, it was a great eye opener and assisted me with breaking-through professionally.

Alosha Paranavithana is an Avanti Women alumni who talked with us recently about the benefits of having a mentor. Alosha volunteered with Avanti Women as a Regional Ambassador and Learning and Development Coordinator from 2014 to 2015, while studying at George Brown College (Business Administration, Human Resources Program) and Seneca College (Honours Bachelor of Commerce, Human Resources Strategy and Technology.) Alosha also participated in Avanti Women's International Womens Day (IWD) event in March 2018 as a guest speaker. She is currently working at PNR RailWorks Inc. as a Technical Training and Development Coordinator.
